November 28 until December 1, 2013, 10.00-20.00Hrs, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) is now ready to launch the international trade platform: Expo Turkey in Thailand together with Turkish art and culture performances highlighting the gigantic Turkish ceramic paintings, glassblowing, and marbling shows.
Mr. Dursun Topcu, Vice President of Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC) revealed that “Turkey has set the 10th Development Plan between the year 2013 and 2018 to achieve “2023 targets”, such as “become one of the 10 largest economies in the world; become one of the five largest agriculture countries in the world, USD 25.000 per capita; etc. Turkey is such a country which has high targets and enough potential to reach them. And the members of ICOC represent one out of every four companies that have been established in this powerful country. 28 percent of national income, 43 percent of total tax revenue and more than 50 percent of foreign trade volume of Turkey are made by the members of our chamber. Therefore, we wanted to organize the Expo Turkey in Thailand to show our power and potential, to introduce our products and to reinforce both business and friendly relations with Thai business world.”
The reason that we particularly wanted to be here is of course the potential and recent situation of the country. For instance; Thailand grew 6.4% in 2012 and became the 29th largest economy in the world. It is a gateway into the heart of Asia, offers convenient trade with China, India and the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and has access into the Greater Mekong sub-region, where newly emerging markets offer great business potential.
With steady economic development and strong support industries, the country’s industrial production has grown and diversified rapidly both in long–established and newly emerging industries.
Moreover, there are the attractive sides of Thailand from a foreign investor point of view. Thai law always supports foreign investment. According to the World Bank surveys on countries’ investment attractiveness, Thailand is the fourth one in Eastern Asia-Pacific. During her visit to Turkey, Prime Minister of Thailand declared that Thailand would invest USD 66 billion in infrastructure and USD 12 billion to water management systems in order to carry foreign products into ASEAN market with less cost. So these will all help us to be a productive base to a market of a 600 million people through Thailand.
For these reasons, we wanted to organize this exhibition to introduce our products and Turkish investment opportunities our esteemed Thai businessmen. This exhibition will offer an opportunity to businessmen from the two countries to come together and get to know each other better.”
Expo Turkey in Thailand, an international trade show for products and services of Republic of Turkey, will take place between November 28 and December 1, 2013, 10.00-20.00Hrs at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok. The event concept, “Eyes on Turkey”, will showcase the technology, tools, innovation, products and services as well as providing knowledge on trade and investment planning by Foreign Economic Relations Board and Ministry of Commerce. In the year 2018 which marks the 60th anniversary of Turkey-Thailand diplomatic relations, there would be joint activities to celebrate and symbolizes close and long-term relations between the two countries. For this year, both parties also agreed upon the connectivity enhancement between the two countries such as; On economy, trade and investment: Both parties came to terms on the Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and Turkey and would start with a joint feasibility study. Increase of mutual trade value within the next 5 years was also agreed upon.
